Agadir is Morocco’s sunniest beach destination — wide sandy bay, modern resorts, and an easy base for Paradise Valley, Taghazout surf, and the Souss-Massa national park.
Levelled by a 1960 earthquake and rebuilt as Morocco’s flagship beach resort, Agadir has 300+ sunny days per year, a 6-km-long bay perfect for families, and warm-water Atlantic swimming. The city itself has limited "old Morocco" charm, but its surroundings are world-class: Taghazout for surf, Paradise Valley for canyon pools, the Anti-Atlas back-country for argan groves and Berber villages, Souss-Massa park for flamingos. Plan 2–3 days minimum, or 7+ for a beach holiday.
Things to do in Agadir
1Walk the 6-km Corniche/beach promenade — café-lined, family-safe, with a marina at the north end.
2Surf or surf-lesson at Taghazout (20 min north) — Anchor Point and Banana Point are the classic right-handers.
3Drive 50 min to Paradise Valley — palm-fringed canyon with natural pools you can swim and jump from.
4Half-day in Souss-Massa National Park — flamingos, bald ibises, oryx; a lesser-known but rewarding stop.
5Visit an argan oil women’s cooperative near Tiout — see the cracking, roasting and pressing.
6Take the cable car (since 2023) to the Agadir Oufella kasbah for panorama over the bay.
7Day trip to Tafraoute and the painted blue rocks for Anti-Atlas landscapes.
Local tips for Agadir
★Beachfront hotels in the "Secteur Touristique" are walking-distance to everything — Founty area is family-oriented.
★Atlantic water 17-22 °C — cooler than the Med. Surf in a 3/2 wetsuit year-round.
★Taghazout is the better base for surfers (cheaper, more lively); Agadir for families and pure beach.
★Ramadan: many traditional restaurants in the medina close until sunset; resort restaurants stay open.
★Argan oil from cooperatives is genuine — at souvenir shops it’s often diluted.
